she's so highly over-rated. yes, she's a good driver but she's only getting all this attention because she's a woman. if she were an up-and-coming male driver she would be a nobody.
She's earned her recognition. She's worked her way through the ranks of racing, she wasn't handed this position. And, if you watched the Indy 500 today, you'll see that there's just as much fuss over the new, young Andretti (Marco) for his second place finish as there was over Danica's fourth place last year. It's a big deal to do so well as a rookie. So, you'll forgive me for strongly disagreeing with you.
the fact that she is a woman in a field dominated by men AND she is doing well is commendable and as a woman i am proud of her and her accomplishments. however, as a race fan and someone whose husband LIVES and BREATHES racing i am annoyed that she is getting so much press in the general media because i feel like it's simply because she is a young, attractive woman. if she were winning race after race or if she were the greatest open-wheel driver ever in the history of motor-sports then i could understand why she's getting all the attention. she's good, at best, not great and i'm bothered that she's taking attention away from other better drivers. case in point: after dan wheldon won the indy 500 last year, she was on the cover of sports illustrated after her 4th place finish. just my humble opinion. take it however you wish. :)
Yes, she does get a lot of of press, but I think she's being celebrated as much for her chutzpah and the color and personality she brings to her game as for her driving.
Americans enjoy and admire that kind of individuality. Being a woman in a male-dominated sport isn't everything, but it is something.
Agree with Amy. She had a good year last year and ran another good Indy. Her team needs to improve gas mileage; this has cost her dearly the past 2 years.
